Frequently Asked Questions

Is Open Circuits really free?

Yes. The free plan includes 5 circuits with up to 20 components each, which is enough for most coursework and learning. Pro and Teacher plans offer unlimited circuits, recordings, classroom tools, and more storage.

Does it work on Chromebooks and tablets?

Yes. Open Circuits runs entirely in the browser and is optimized for Chromebooks, iPads, and other devices commonly used in schools. No software installation is required.

Can I use it for my university course?

Absolutely. Many university instructors use Open Circuits for digital electronics, circuit analysis, and electrical engineering courses. The Teacher plan includes classroom management, assignments, and interactive recordings.

What types of circuits can I simulate?

Open Circuits supports both digital logic (AND, OR, NOT, flip-flops, multiplexers, etc.) and analog circuits (resistors, capacitors, diodes, transistors, op-amps). The digital engine evaluates logic propagation in real time, while the analog engine uses Modified Nodal Analysis for accurate voltage and current calculation.

Can students see each other's circuits?

No. Student circuits are private by default. Only teachers can view student submissions within assigned work. The public circuit library is curated by admins and contains only reference designs, not student work.

How is my data stored?

All circuit data is stored securely in the cloud. You can access your circuits from any device by logging in. Circuit files are small (a few KB each) and your data is never shared with third parties.

Can I export my circuits?

Circuits are saved in Open Circuits' native format in the cloud. Export to image (PNG) is available from the editor toolbar for including circuit diagrams in reports and presentations.
